My oldest brother, David, ran his first half-marathon at the Country Music event on April 26 as part of a healthy initiative paid for by his employer. I called afterwards hoping to hear all about his wonderful experience. I did not get that kind of response. You know by my blog that I try hard to encourage people to race, so I was bummed. In his blog he wrote, “I did not have fun. And I think they [fellow co-workers who had glowing testimonials about the race] are lying.” Check out his blog HERE. I think you will appreciate his honesty and his 10 Notes-to-Self.
David has not participated in road runs for decades. He does have one noteworthy success: He ran a 10k in Lexington, KY soon after college. He talked a high school boy from his church into joining him on a whim. The boy discovered that day that he had a natural talent for it because he ran very well without any conditioning for it (and left David way behind). He soon became one of the top high school cross-country runners in the state of Kentucky.
